In this interview we speak with Willie Ray Parish, the founding director of the Border Art Residency. Parish discusses the residency program that attracts artists from all over the world to work and live in La Union, NM. Recently artist Scott McMahon joined the program and he partnered with Parish to create a mobile camera obscura that will become part of the BAR's permanent collection. The public viewing will be on April 16, 2011, but the BAR is open to visitors anytime.

Adventure Cycling Across the United States

This weekend's edition of "On the Road with Lisa D." features an interview with Beth Nobles from Texas Mountain Trails in West Texas. In addition to talking about all the hiking there is to do in West Texas, Beth will also focus on how bike friendly hotels in West Texas have become as interest in cycling adventures grow. Rebooting America's Outdoors by Michael Brune

It's a famous photo: President Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir are posed together on the overlook at Glacier Point in 1903. Roosevelt stares directly at the camera, looking like he wants to bust a bronco and play a polo match at the same time. Muir, dressed like a well-heeled hobo, gazes off toward the mountains. It was during this three-night camping trip in Yosemite that Muir persuaded Roosevelt that his beloved Yosemite should be a national park -- protected and managed by the federal government for all Americans.
